Try Nordic Walking this summer with North Coast Nordic Walking taster sessions in August and September.
North Coast Nordic Walking by Follow Me Fitness is delivered by Nathalie and her partner Nick in Cornwall using their combined fitness experience and knowledge from their training with Nordic Walking UK and British Nordic Walking, the leading training providers of Nordic Walking in the UK.
When I first trained to be a Nordic Walking instructor I was excited by the accessibility of it. It meant that I would be able to encourage people to exercise outdoors whatever their level of ability – everyone is happy to go out walking and it isn’t intimidating. At this level, I have always absolutely believed in it and could feel the benefits throughout my body even after a couple of days of taking part in the training.
In the UK, Nordic Walking is still believed to be something just for older participants and still confusion over what benefit the poles bring beyond stability, until people try it for themselves. You can read more about What is Nordic Walking and the benefits here.
But the culture of walking is changing and internationally Nordic Walking is developing and being embraced by athletes who are using poles for cross training and even ultra running events. If you look at the website of one of the premier brands of Nordic Walking poles – the image isn’t of a traditional walking group, but of sports people more akin to a leading sportswear company that highlights this development of the sport.
It is this side of Nordic Walking that has captured Nick’s interest. Nick says:
I really enjoy taking part in a variety of sports such as Crossfit and Tag Rugby and was looking for something that would complement these higher intensity activities and provide an active recovery. I actually found that Nordic Walking can be both an active recovery or a challenging workout – flexible in that it can be both!
This August and September we are offering a week of Nordic Walking taster sessions. You will learn the theory behind Nordic Walking, the basic technique and put what you’ve learnt into practise.
